Let me be honest. I don’t get enough sleep always.
If you are like me, I’m guessing you don’t either.
Believe me, those sleepless nights would stress me out for many years, even today.
It’s frustrating to lie awake, staring at the ceiling, and thinking about how tired you’ll be tomorrow.
More importantly, then you start remembering all those scary health warnings about sleep deprivation, like getting high blood pressure, weight gain, lack of focus, and obesity.
But recently, I stumbled across something that changed my thoughts about all this.
This “you need seven or eight hours of uninterrupted sleep” rule is more of a modern invention than a biological necessity.
Back in the day, people slept in two chunks. They’d have a “first sleep,” wake up for a bit, and then have a “second sleep.” During that wakeful time, they’d relax, think, maybe even get stuff done.
When I learned that, it blew my mind.
